Over 55s have 'the ultimate advantage' in tight residential market

A retirement community in Brisbane’s south, where home values across the suburb have increased more than 47% in 12 months, is proving that over 55s have the ultimate advantage in the current property market.

Aveo Sales Regional Manager, Lynn McGavin, said ageing Australians are uniquely positioned to access residential apartments and homes without the heated contest of the open market.

“This is the one sector of the property market where new residential homes and apartments are still available, albeit in limited supply, and over 55s have a huge advantage,” Ms McGavin said.

“There is no need to compete with the open market, no volatility in property values, and the immediate lifestyle advantages, and sense of community, are incredibly special.”

Ms McGavin said there has been a strong uplift in enquiries at Aveo Robertson Park, eight kilometres south of the Brisbane CBD, during the past six months as the lack of housing supply makes itself felt across southeast Queensland.”

“The median house price in the suburb of Robertson has increased 47% in the past 12 months and we’re seeing more Baby Boomers – and even the early cohort of Generation X – looking to cash in on the upswing and ‘right size’ to a modern retirement community,” she said.

“Retirement living has come a long way and vertical villages such as Robertson Park really hold their own when you compare them to new apartment developments in the open market, in both size and amenity.

“Here, you can choose from large, brand-new pet-friendly one and two-bedroom apartments, which means plenty of room for visitors and spaces for life to fit.

“All maintenance is taken care of, and residents have the peace of mind that comes with a 24/7 emergency call system.”

Ms McGavin said visitors will be able to explore the amenities and see the thriving community first-hand at this Saturday’s Open Home celebrations.

“The community herb garden is one of my favourite areas, however there’s so much more to explore – from the outdoor heated pool and barbecue area to the gymnasium, piano lounge, dining room, library, billiards, movie screen and beauty salon,” she said.

“It’s something that has to be experienced to be understood. We’re looking forward to opening our doors to our neighbours, and families, and helping people discover the difference for themselves.”

Furnished display apartments will be open for inspection during the Open Home celebrations. Ms McGavin said one-bedroom apartments at Robertson Park are priced from $439,000, while two-bedroom apartments start from $495,000.

The Aveo Robertson Park community will open its doors to the public this Saturday (16 July) from 11:00am to 2:00pm as part of Aveo’s National Open Home celebrations, with food trucks, coffee van and a caricature artist.
