For National Reconciliation Week this year, Cherry Tree Grove Retirement Living residents and Aveo team members, as well as visiting residents from Mingarra Retirement Living, came together in a heartfelt celebration. This was Cherry Tree Grove’s first time holding a National Reconciliation Week event, it was brimming with hope and symbolism as they celebrated their new indigenous community garden through a planting ceremony.
The morning tea was not just about planting native seedlings; it was a profound gesture of the community's dedication to healing and stride towards equality. Residents gathered, each taking a native seedling in hand and planting it as part of the garden, symbolising their collective commitment to fostering understanding, respect, and unity.
We were honoured to have Ben Moodie, a local indigenous performer share his insights into indigenous culture, reminding us of the rich heritage that has shaped our land and also play a captivating musical piece on the Yidaki (Didgeridoo). After the ceremony, residents, Ben and the Aveo team enjoyed a morning tea featuring delicious lemon myrtle damper scones, fresh fruits and more.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians, embracing our diversity and honouring our history. Each step forward, no matter how small, contributes to a more just and unified nation. This garden, now teeming with promise and new life, serves as a living testament to the aspirations for the future at Cherry Tree Grove.
Together, we can create a future build on mutual respect and inclusivity for all.
