At Aveo, the health and safety of residents and staff in our Retirement Living Communities remains our number one priority.
We continue to monitor prevailing medical and government advice on COVID-19, and remain committed to operating in a manner that aligns with our pandemic response plans.
To this end, Aveo requires all staff, contractors and service providers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a valid medical exemption. This means we require at least two doses of a TGA-approved COVID-19 vaccine for our workforce. We want to do all we can to provide a safe living and working environment for valued residents who call our communities home and our staff, which is why we have taken this step.
Vaccination is only one control measure employed in combating the threat of COVID-19 and safeguarding the health of residents and staff. In addition, we remain committed to ensuring that standard infection prevention and control protocols are followed, and that we employ appropriate environmental cleaning and sanitising practices across our communities and workplaces.
It remains of paramount importance that everyone continues to practise good hand and respiratory hygiene. This means washing or sanitising your hands regularly and coughing or sneezing into a tissue or your elbow.
If you have tested positive to COVID-19, are an immediate household contact of someone with COVID-19, or are experiencing any COVID-like symptoms, we respectfully ask that you voluntarily elect to limit your movements and not attend one of our communities – out of respect for the health and safety of others.
As a reminder, COVID-19 symptoms may include a runny or stuffy nose; headache; cough; shortness of breath and/or rapid breathing; sore throat; and fever.
Staff will continue to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required. This may include face masks or other protective clothing when dealing with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or delivering personal care services to an unwell individual.
Face masks are available at all of our communities and workplaces, and we are committed to making these available to anyone who wishes to wear one.
All staff are suitably trained on the correct protocols for wearing PPE safely and effectively, as well as in hand hygiene and infection control.
Visiting one of our communities?
To ensure the safety of residents and staff in our communities, all visitors who attend our community events, open homes and inspections are requested to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This means you should ideally have received at least two doses of a TGA-approved COVID-19 vaccine.
In making an inquiry or confirming your attendance at an event, Aveo staff may remind you of our safety protocols and our preference for you to be vaccinated.
From time to time and having regard to the number of cases that may be present in the wider community or at a specific location, we may also limit the number of external groups visiting for social activities and events. These decisions are made on the prevailing conditions and advice at that time. There may be circumstances, for example, where a number of COVID-19 cases are present in a retirement community and events may need to be rescheduled or reduced.
