Sustainability
A Brighter Future for Our Communities and the Planet
As industry leaders in retirement living, sustainability is integral to Aveo’s mission. Guided by our foundational values of kindness, care, and respect, we are committed to making a positive impact on our communities and the environment. By setting clear targets and providing strong direction, we ensure residents have clarity and confidence in our commitment to a sustainable future. Our strategic and thoughtful approach is designed to deliver enduring value and security.
Our Commitment to Net Zero by 2025
Upholding the highest standards in ESG leadership, our strategy is grounded in transparency, accountability, and proactive engagement, driving meaningful change for residents and stakeholders.
What Does Net Zero Mean?
To achieve Net Zero (Scope 1 and Scope 2), Aveo is investing in community-wide initiatives, including solar energy installations, Electric Vehicle charging stations, and advanced energy-efficient technologies.
Understanding Scope 1 and Scope 2:
- Scope 1 Emissions: Direct emissions from our operations, like fuel used by our vehicles and natural gas used for heating.
- Scope 2 Emissions: Indirect emissions from the electricity we use, produced elsewhere.
We aim to reduce emissions from our activities and the energy we use, for our communities and our planet.
Our Clear and Measurable Objectives
Aveo’s ESG objectives are clearly defined to promote sustainability, enhance social responsibility, and ensure robust governance. These objectives steer our strategic initiatives and undergo regular review to guarantee continuous improvement and positive outcomes.
- Net Zero GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by end of 2025
- 15% reduction in total water use by end of 2025
- 80% of waste to be recycled or diverted by end of 2025
- Establishing and obtaining endorsement of a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
- Annual participation in Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB)
- Providing climate-related financial disclosures by the end of 2026
Sustainability Reporting
At Aveo, transparency is more than a value - it's a commitment to progress. We are currently finalising our Annual Sustainability Report that will be available in September 2024. This report is a testament to transparency, ensuring residents, staff and stakeholders are fully informed about our journey and impact.
Our Communities are Contributing to a Better Future
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our organisation—it's a community effort. That's why we've developed a sustainability engagement program that empowers our residents to join us in delivering value to the wider world through various events and programs.
- Raising funds for local charities including Project Pink
- Inviting the community to participate in events and workshops on sustainability
- Providing resources and support for energy efficiency and waste reduction
- Encouraging active participation in community gardens and local charity initiatives
